In craniofacial surgery, soft tissue reconstructions are frequently performed. The causes can be congenital or acquired, and for which there is no uniform treatment due to the complexity of these alterations.
The use of dermal-fat grafts is a very useful tool for reconstruction in these cases, but deferring the recipient site before graft placement is a rare technique in clinical practice.
This study evaluated the benefits of deferring the recipient site before graft placement. This resulted in significant improvements in healing, facial symmetry, and patient satisfaction, as well as improved graft integration and survival.
